Offering people prospects, promoting ideas
The way we work
Targeted and sustainable: the Haniel Foundation wants its projects to have the biggest possible impact. To this end, it focuses on networking and partnerships with and between cooperative partners. It provides development stimuli and sees projects through to their sustainable establishment. The not-for-profit foundation currently donates around two million euros a year in funding to its focal areas of educational opportunities and the promotion of future generations.
Strong support for more than 25 years
The Haniel Foundation is a non-profit foundation based in Duisburg. It was established in 1988 by Franz Haniel & Cie. GmbH with foundation assets of approximately five million euros. By 2000, it had doubled its assets through additional donations – mainly from the founding company and its shareholders. At the time of the 250 year anniversary of Franz Haniel & Cie. GmbH in 2006, its capital was increased. It has since risen to around 45 million euros. The foundation currently provides round about 1.7 million euros for grants each year. Around half of this goes on scholarships.
Targeted support
The Haniel Foundation considers itself an operating foundation, meaning that it generally seeks out its own partners and projects with which it can make its objectives a reality. The Haniel Foundation supports young leaders in three international scholarship programmes. It does not support research periods or doctoral studies. Grants for printing costs are also not given.
A driving force
The Haniel Foundation would like to generate the greatest possible impact with its projects. In order to achieve this, it pursues the approach of networking and cooperation with and between the cooperation partners. It drives them on and accompanies the projects until they are firmly established
Concrete projects
The Haniel Foundation wants to provide support in a targeted and sustainable manner. For this reason, it concentrates on clearly defined projects and develops them gradually.
